Since 1990, the Black Hills String Retreat has offered young string players, entering grades 5-12, an intensive and varied program under the direction of an outstanding guest faculty in a relaxed and fun environment. String Retreat is held at the Cedar Canyon Camp in Rapid City, South Dakota.  We also provide a day camp for younger students - please scroll down for information about Suzuki Day Camp.

 

The camp has grown from a weekend workshop for 80 students to a five day camp of over 200 campers. Students are housed in camp cabins and are chaperoned by our volunteer parent staff.

 

String Retreat offers a wide variety of musical activities including master classes, orchestra, ensemble coaching, and technique classes, as well as a number of performing opportunities; electives include fiddle, handbells, and penny whistle for 4th, 5th & 6th graders and fiddle, handbells, and middle school all-state coaching for 7th & 8th graders.

A Release of Liability form is required by Cedar Canyon Camp for each enrolled camper. Please print out and return the form with your String Retreat application.
